WeathAR
WeathAR is an augmented reality weather app that immerses the user into an enjoyable and interactive viewing of the current weather of their chosen location. The app is accessible via the user's iOS phone, provided they have a lidar compatible device. Using the device, the user can aim the phone at their environment, tap on where they want the weather to be rendered, and view the resulting immersive display of the weather. Depending on the hour’s weather, a 3D animated visualization will be projected onto the ceiling that will mimic that weather’s behavior (i.e. if it is raining that hour, then rain clouds will form and rendered raindrops will fall in user’s space). We created WeathAR as an exploration project into the capabilities of Augmented Reality and test its limits in interacting with our physical environment. Developing a weather app proved to be the perfect project for us to delve into these explorations as it allowed us to test out the newest AR API from Apple and its features of occlusion, dynamic and realistic lighting, physics and physical interactions with an actual environment.
